Social Work is a profession dedicated to helping individuals and families cope with problems in living and making society a fairer and more just place for us all. Professional social workers deal with some of the most troubling problems facing society and make a difference in people’s lives. For example social workers traditionally work with domestic violence, violence against children, and the elderly. They also address problems related to mental illness, access to health care, probation and parole, and the adjustment of children in school settings. Social workers follow a professional code of ethics, respect the diversity of the people with whom they work, and may be involved in shaping social policies to help get people get the services they need.

The BSW Program at Texas A & M University – Central Texas offers a unique opportunity to pursue a professional degree in social work. The program has experienced faculty who are committed to student education and during their studies students get to know them well. The Program is heavily involved in community service and has received many National awards for service from Phi Alpha the national social work honor society. Social work student organizations have also received organization of the year recognition multiple times from TAMUCT. Our student are active and involved both in and outside the classroom.

The BSW is a nationally recognized professional degree in social work and make a graduate eligible for a social work license. The BSW Program at TAMUCT is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.

The mission of the Bachelor of Social Work Program at Texas A&M University - Central Texas is to prepare high quality graduates for entry-level generalist social work practice and advanced education through education is delivered in a rigorous and student-centered learning environment that promotes professional behavior, values and ethics, human and community well-being, respect for human diversity, and a global perspective, and is guided by a person-in-environment framework, knowledge based on scientific inquiry, and social work competencies in support of the college and university missions.
